From Idea to Illustrated Joy – A Look at My Creative Process

Each new art collection at Frame Your World Co begins with a spark — a moment, a memory, or a story I want to tell. Sometimes it’s the way the morning light hits a window, the nostalgia of a childhood holiday, or the comforting swirl of coffee on a slow Sunday.

As a UK illustrator based in the Cotswolds, I create art with heart — and every new collection follows a whimsical but intentional process to bring that feeling to life.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how I illustrate a new collection from start to finish.

1. Finding Inspiration – The Creative Spark

Inspiration strikes all the time, during a walk through the countryside, while journaling with a cup of tea, or scrolling through photos of places I’ve visited.

  • My Faringdon Autumn print came from a golden stroll through West Oxfordshire.
  • My pumpkin sticker trio started with a sketch during a cosy October evening.
  • My travel prints are often based on real places I’ve explored or dream of visiting.

I keep a running list of quotes, colour palettes, and seasonal ideas in my sketchbook and digital notebook, often accompanied by a playlist of cosy background music.

2. Sketching & Storytelling

Before I open my iPad or computer, I usually start with loose pencil sketches. Then I ask:

  • What mood do I want this piece to carry?
  • What story is it telling?
  • Is it playful? Calming? Encouraging?

Sometimes I include hidden elements like:

  • A tiny heart or coffee cup in the background
  • A phrase that speaks directly to someone who might need it

This part is where my brand values of creativity, curiosity, and encouragement come to life.

3. Digital Illustration – Where the Magic Happens

Once the sketch feels right, I bring it into my digital workspace. I use a soft, hand-drawn style that blends realism with whimsy — adding texture, colour, and detail in layers.

This is where the Cotswolds influence often shines: muted palettes, nature motifs, village charm.

Each illustration can take hours (or days), but it’s all part of making sure it feels just right.

4. Product Testing & Mockups

After finalising the artwork, I test how it works across different formats:

  • Art prints
  • Stickers
  • Mugs
  • Tote bags
  • Notebooks

I test sizes, do mockups in natural lighting, and sometimes even print samples at home to check quality.

If it doesn't look beautiful, feel special, or align with my brand, it doesn’t go into the shop.

5. Bringing It to Life in the Shop

Finally, I prepare listings, write heartfelt product descriptions, and photograph the pieces styled naturally, often with books, flowers, or mugs nearby. Then I launch!

You’ll usually find a new product or mini collection every season or inspired by something I’m personally going through and want to share through my art.

What’s Coming Next?

I’m currently working on:

  • A spring/summer mini collection inspired by coastal getaways
  • More Cotswolds-themed quote art
  • The continued adventures of my illustrated characters like Cinnabon the Gingerbread, Buttons the Hedgehog, and more
