As we step into a new year, I’m feeling a wave of excitement and curiosity about what lies ahead for Frame Your World Co. This year feels different – maybe it’s the anticipation of new projects, or the way fresh ideas seem to arrive with the crisp January air. One of the things I love most about creating art and gifts is how it brings creativity and joy into everyday life.
You don’t have to be an artist to embrace creativity. Sometimes, it’s the little things – doodling, rearranging your space, or trying a new hobby – that spark the most joy. That's what I find anyway. Today, I want to share five simple, practical ways on how you and I can invite more creativity and curiosity into our lives in 2025. Whether you’re looking to shake up your routine or just want to feel a little more inspired, try one or more of these and save this post to return and sample another at anytime this year.
Why Creativity Matters for Everyone
Creativity isn’t reserved for artists or entrepreneurs – it’s for everyone. Infusing creativity into your day can boost your mood, help you solve problems, and even improve your mental health. I found this to be true as a sick kid growing up in Yorkhill hospital. The number of memories I have of those times in my life are now clouded by rose tinted glass moments of when I picked a toy from the biggest pile of presents from the head nurses office on Christmas day, or all of the cool creative art work that was plastered on every wall of the hospital, and the all important play area that I could pick out the best ones depending on which medical department I was visiting. When you engage in creative activities, you allow yourself to slow down, reflect, and see the world differently. This sense of curiosity and playfulness can turn ordinary or even difficult days into extraordinary ones.
Over the last few weeks I've spent a lot of time thinking and planning for 2025. Here are a few tips and ideas that have inspired and helped me that I hope by sharing, will ignite a spark for you too.
1. Create a Vision Board
A vision board is more than just a collage – it’s a tangible representation of your dreams and aspirations. I love gathering inspiring art, quotes, and colours that align with the kind of year I want to have. It’s a fun, mindful exercise that helps me focus on the things that bring me joy.
Vision boards tap into the power of visualization. Studies show that visualizing goals improves motivation and increases the likelihood of achieving them. When you consistently remind yourself of your aspirations, your brain naturally begins to identify opportunities that align with your vision.
How to Start: Grab some magazines, printouts, or digital tools like Canva. Select images that reflect how you want to feel in 2025. Maybe it’s more travel, self-care, or time for hobbies. Place the board somewhere you’ll see it daily.
2. Start Small
Big ideas are exciting, but small steps often lead to lasting change. If you’re feeling creatively stuck, try small daily rituals – like a 10-minute doodle session or writing a few sentences in a journal. It’s amazing how these brief moments can brighten your day and spark new ideas.
Micro-habits are key to building long-term creative success. Small actions reduce the fear of failure and make creativity more approachable. Over time, these small steps build momentum, leading to more confidence and inspiration.
Try This: Set a timer for 10 minutes each day and create something just for fun. No pressure, just play. Join a 30-day creative challenge if you need a little structure.
3. Declutter Your Space
There’s something magical about a clean, organised space. Every time I declutter, I feel lighter and more open to new ideas. A tidy environment reduces mental clutter, making room for creativity to flow.
Research shows that physical clutter can negatively affect mental clarity. By creating an organized space, you reduce distractions and improve your ability to focus. Even a small change, like rearranging a shelf or adding a plant, can lift your mood and spark inspiration.
Quick Tip: Dedicate one afternoon to clearing out a part of your home that feels chaotic. Add a piece of art or a candle that makes you happy. I often rearrange my workspace or add one of my own prints to keep the energy fresh.
4. Embrace New Mediums
Creativity thrives when we step outside our comfort zones. This year, I’m planning to experiment with new art styles and materials. Trying something new – even if it’s just for fun – keeps things exciting and can lead to unexpected discoveries.
New experiences stimulate different parts of the brain, helping you think more creatively in all areas of life. It doesn’t have to be art-focused. Maybe you try a new recipe, garden, or pick up photography. The goal is to stay curious and open.
What to Do: Choose one new hobby or creative activity you’ve been curious about and give it a go this month. Sign up for a local class or follow a YouTube tutorial. The experience alone can be rewarding.
5. Celebrate the Little Wins
I’ve learned to celebrate small victories – a finished drawing, a successful market day, or simply showing up for myself creatively. Acknowledging progress keeps you motivated and reminds you that growth happens gradually.
Positive psychology shows that recognizing small achievements triggers dopamine, boosting mood and reinforcing good habits. By celebrating progress, you stay energized and inspired.
Celebrate This Way: Keep a journal or note on your phone where you list things you’re proud of. Reflect on them at the end of the month. Treat yourself to something small, like new art supplies or a day off, to reward your efforts.
